Rear Window

Year: 2021
Medium: Multimedia Installation
Dimension Variable

In Rear Window, Alexander Si constructs a long, enclosed room with a single rear-facing window. Visitors are invited to peer through the opening into what appears to be someone else’s private room. Yet, their own faces are being captured by twelve hidden cameras and streamed live across fifteen monitors embedded throughout the installation.

The space beyond the window is densely furnished with media and technological debris: stacks of newspapers, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, magazines, recording machines, processors, tangled wires, and flickering screens. Blurring the line between voyeur and subject, the work stages a quiet tension between looking and being watched—inviting reflection on media excess, surveillance culture, and the ways in which our desire to observe is always mirrored back.
