In this durational installation, a hacked receipt printer is programmed to output a chronological record of Britney Spears’s life—spanning from her birth in 1981 to the present day. Over the exhibition, the printer dispenses thousands of screengrabs and fragments drawn from music videos, televised appearances, paparazzi photos, court documents, and social media posts, forming a continuous stream of receipts that accumulate on the gallery floor.
Automated through a custom-built computer program, the work functions as both archive and sculpture—transforming ephemeral media into physical detritus. As the rolls of thermal paper grow, they bear witness to shifting technologies, evolving celebrity culture, and the mechanics of surveillance and spectacle.
By centering Spears’s image and history, Britney (b. 1981) becomes a lens through which to examine the past 25 years of digital documentation, public obsession, and the costs of visibility in contemporary culture.
